personal dictionary bug question

$

The things I add to my personal dictionary in the language and input section in settings requires me to go into it after every restart for them to work. I use them short cuts for hashtags all the time. Example mc = Merry Christmas 🎄

Much easier to type just 'mc' for me anyways. Does any other phone he this option?

Key2 on AT&T minor error in Phone "additional settings"

I got a Key2 from GoTalk and put it on a new AT&T wireless postpaid account I just obtained with a new number. I'm getting a weird error message.

In "Phone > Settings > Calls > Additional settings" it gives me the error message "Network or SIM card error!"

And yet, after I hit OK it does take me into the module. Once in, the two choices are for Caller ID (whether my outgoing calls show my number), which seems to take and keep the choice I make, and Call Waiting (to beep me when a call comes in when I'm on a call) -- and the default shows it as off and when I turn it on it won't take and is still set to off when I go back in, yet the feature is working properly in spite of that, meaning I do get the call-waiting beep when a second call comes in and I can answer it just fine, with the options then to merge or swap calls.

I wonder what's up with that? Are others having this same issue? And is all else working okay on AT&T (MMS, etc, etc, even when drilling down into other settings modules)?

(Note that I created what became a long thread on CB about my prior experience trying to make the Key2 work on Verizon and this same module gave the same error but would not let me in to change Caller ID settings, and when I made calls from my Contacts it would not show me their names while on the call or in log/history. With AT&T showing the names is working fine.)

KeyOne Bricked?

BlackBerry, Keyone, Special Edition, Dual Sim, India.
PRD: PRD-63764-001 (Group: KEYone BBB100-7)
OS Build: ABP244 (Android 8.1.0)
[Upgrade history from ABB216 (android 7.1.1) to ABG076 (Android 8.1.0 ) ….to…to ABP244(Android 8.1.0 )]

Tried downgrading to back to AAX862. Now it gets stuck in bootmenu and gives the following white blinking code: 101111 - Flash Write Failure Bad device memory hardware.

Subsequently tried numerous other software updates and back to ABP244 (which worked fine before) but they all get stuck in the boot menu. The only software it will boot with is ABX992, which is the latest AT&T update. Not sure it matters but I am with AT&T. However, when trying to make a call, no voice is transmitted over the call.

Any suggestions and advice would be greatly appreciated!

Latest Android vulnerabilities can brick your phone, control the camera, and steal your cash

According to the NIST National Vulnerability Database (via Forbes), a maliciously written message could result in a permanent denial of service attack that would brick a phone running Android 8, 8.1, 9, or 10. The December Android security update includes a patch for CVE-2019-2232 which means that if the update has been sent to your phone, install it immediately. But again, the real problem is that only a limited number of devices have it at the moment.

Earlier this month, information about the "StrandHogg" vulnerability was released by security software developer Promon. Disguised as a legitimate app, this malware put the top 500 Android apps at risk (Promon partner Lookout discovered 36 malicious apps that actually carried the vulnerability) and allowed bad actors (without root access) to listen in on Android users through a phone's microphone, take control of the camera and remotely snap pictures, read and send SMS messages from a handset, make and record phone calls, learn a user's location through GPS access, see photos and files on an Android handset, view contacts, phone logs and more.

With "StrandHogg," an Android user would click on the icon belonging to a legit app. Instead of the legit app, malware would be displayed asking for certain permissions. Once these permissions were granted by the unsuspecting Android user, the hacker was given the green light to hack away. This vulnerability could unleash a phishing attack allowing the bad actor to obtain important personal data.

For the majority of Android users, the monthly security update is a snooze-fest since it doesn't make any changes or add new features that they can see or use. But the problem is that the December security update is important because of a vulnerability known as CVE-2019-2232. The update was first disseminated on December 2nd and Google says, "In general, it takes about one and a half calendar weeks for the OTA to reach every Google device." And that is just for the Pixel handsets.

This vulnerability could unleash a phishing attack allowing the bad actor to obtain important personal data.

Google recently announced that it was teaming up with some security firms (including the aforementioned Lookout) in an attempt to fight back against malware. Hopefully, the App Defense Alliance can get one step ahead of the bad actors. The security research firms typically contact Google with their findings and the company closes these vulnerabilities. However, with StrandHogg, Promon notes that Google did not take it seriously at first and while it eventually removed the apps responsible for distributing the malware, this vulnerability has apparently not been fixed. And many of the "dropper apps" that helped spread StrandHogg are still on Android users' phones. One, a PDF creator app named CamScanner, has been installed over 100 million times.

I have a BB Keyone and love it but the media sound is driving me crazy. It's impossible to turn on until it's ready to do it by itself. The sound might be playing fine and it will just shut off. The sound Slider is frequently OFF but has no affect when I slide it to ON.

Any ideas? TIA.

I own a BlackBerry Key2 and love it but I was thinking of getting a back up phone. I see that the Keyone is available in 64gb w/ 4gigs of ram. Because I can't get my hands on one I want to know if there is a big difference. I know the keyboard is slicker and glossier but other than that I don't know too much about it. Any help?

I hate the ugly bright blue caller screen that shows when I answer the phone. I have looked and cant find a way to change it. Is there a customizable app anyone recommend that can act as a ui for phone calls or is there a way to change the colors/theme when dialing and answering?

KeyOne hub+services updated

I have a KeyOne that is free of Google log-ins. I just use phone, text, email, and some web browsing using DuckDuckGo. I have been using the device for about a year.

This weekend I received a message about SMS spam protection and being suspicious of Google, I tried to cancel out of it. I was busy and may have hit the wrong key. Then I began getting Google alerts whenever I received text messages and it was very annoying. Unable to find the culprit app I reset my phone to factory default and reset my email accounts. Most of my photos were on my SD card.

Everything appeared fine and I left the phone on the charger for a couple hours. When I came back the mail icon is a different logo and it asks me to "update BlackBerry Hub+ Services and takes me to Google Play. I set the phone up without Google, I don't have a Google account and I don't want a Google account because I am tired it Google's intrusiveness.

How did this happen and how do I get my phone to work like it did before?
